Castries, 10 August, 2024 – The Water and Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO) has partnered with The Saint Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF) to improve upon the availability of pipe borne water in the wider Choiseul region. A newly installed 100,000 gallon Glass-Fused Bolted Steel Tank with system components, made available by grant funding from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) through the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) Tenth Program and counterpart funding from the Government of Saint Lucia, will address the urgent need to provide a sustainable water supply solution for the community of Victoria and its immediate environs. A ceremonial handover of the Victoria Water Storage Facility held on Friday 9th August, 2024 formally marked the transfer of operating authority to WASCO. Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Zilta George-Leslie in an address to a distinguished gathering of attendees, highlighted the importance of the project stating, “This facility is a vital support to meet the
needs of a community that contributes greatly to Saint Lucia’s economy and culture.” A significant community asset and investment in our island’s water infrastructure, this advancement aims to strengthen the water distribution system in Choiseul, alleviating water availability issues posed by climate change and increased network demand. Hundreds of homes and businesses in communities throughout Choiseul will benefit from improved water access, including Victoria, Belle Vue, Dacretin, Wavin Naway, Dierre Morne, Franciou, Morne Sion, Fond Cocoa, Ravineau, Bois Den and Mongouge. The infrastructural upgrades form part of the Choiseul Water Supply Redevelopment Project, a central component of WASCO’s expansion and improvement of its services across Saint Lucia.
